Located near the New York border in southern Vermont, the Shaftsbury Barracks is the primary law enforcement agency for twelve towns in Bennington County.
We provide police service to the towns of Arlington, Dorset, Glastenbury, Pownal, Readsboro, Rupert, Sandgate, Shaftsbury, Stamford, Searsburg, Sunderland, and Woodford. We also provide support and back-up assistance on request to two municipal police departments in the area, Bennington and Manchester.

Two Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks have lost their lives in the line of duty:
Sergeant William J. Chenard suffered a fatal heart attack while leading a search party up a mountain on June 14th, 1987.
Sergeant Gary Gaboury, while working with the VSP SCUBA team, lost his life in the line of duty during a recovery operation in Huntington on May 12th, 1992
