The Vermont State Police Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program is comprised of troopers who have obtained certification as remote pilots through the Federal Aviation Administration. Established in 2019, the program is focused on the use of evolving technology to enhance and support public safety missions across Vermont.
Missions include responding to floods, conducting storm damage assessments, taking part in search and rescue operations on land and water, assisting in crash reconstruction, and responding to crime scenes, hazardous materials incidents, Bomb Squad responses and other tactical operations.
The UAS Program operates multiple unmanned aircraft platforms strategically located throughout the state. The UAS units are available to be rapidly deployed upon request of public safety officials. The program and its 13 pilots operate in compliance with FAA regulations and Vermont law.
