Submit an Application

Before you apply, please read carefully. 

There are Two Steps to the Application Process

Step 1: Apply Online

Our application is facilitated by the Department of Human Resources. Go to careers.vermont.gov to create a free user account and apply.

Apply to the "Trooper Probationary" job if you have not been certified as a full-time law enforcement officer, or have been certified for less than three years.

Apply to the "Trooper" job if you have been certified as a full-time law enforcement officer for three or more years.

Step 2: Send Documents

Upon completion of your online application through the Department of Human Resources website, you MUST send the Office of Professional Development / Training Division:

  1. An Applicant Contact Information Form 
  2. A copy of your birth certificate, Social Security card, or other documentation showing your authorization to work in the United States.
  3. A copy of your high school diploma or equivalent, or high school transcripts.
  4. A copy of your DD-214 if you served in the military.
  5. A photocopy of your driver's license, if you have one.

These items must be emailed to Theresa Murdock with a subject line of "(your full name) Applicant Documents" or sent to the address below.

Please note - It may take 15 to 20 days for us to receive the online application from Vermont Human Resources.

Once we receive your application and the above requested items, you will receive a confirmation email from us regarding your Phase I testing. Typically you will be scheduled by default for the next test date.

If you have been scheduled for a test date and need to change it or cancel it, please email Theresa Murdock

Make sure you read the Basic Requirements and the FAQ to ensure you are eligible. Many applicants fail to do this, and waste time and money traveling to compete for a position for which they are ineligible.
