The Vermont State Police’s Embedded Crisis Specialists are integral to addressing mental health-related calls within the community. These professionals are trained to respond alongside VSP Troopers to incidents that involve a mental health or substance abuse component. They work to connect individuals with local mental health services, treatment programs, and other resources, providing short and medium-term support for those struggling with mental health or substance use challenges.
Each VSP station around the state has at least one Crisis Specialist embedded with the troops. These individuals are employed by local Designated Agencies and work solely out of the VSP Barracks.
This collaboration between Crisis Specialists and State Police Troopers is one of the ways the Vermont State Police are enhancing community safety while ensuring individuals receive the care, support and resources they need in a timely fashion.
