Vermont State Police Headquarters and History

The Redstone building in MontpelierWhen first organized, the Vermont State Police set up headquarters in what was known as the "Redstone" building in Montpelier. As the department expanded, more space was needed, and headquarters moved to its present location in Waterbury in 1983.

Located in a modern, state-of-the-art facility, the Department of Public Safety is headquartered in the state office complex in Waterbury, Vermont. While many state agencies were forced to relocate after Tropical Storm Irene, the Department of Public Safety was able to remain in the state office complex. In addition to the Vermont State Police, the Department of Public Safety's headquarters building also houses Vermont Emergency Management, the Homeland Security Unit, the Vermont Crime Information Center, and the Vermont Forensic Lab.
