Members of the Vermont State Police have been involved in 47 officer-involved shootings since 1977, when VSP recordkeeping on the subject began. In each case, the use of force was found to be justified following outside, independent reviews of the incidents. Information regarding these incidents is collected by the state police on a case-by-case basis and will be updated as needed. The most recent time a Vermont state trooper discharged a firearm in the line of duty was June 12, 2024.
